Understanding the Texas Sex Offender Registration Program

The Texas Sex Offender Registration Program was enacted on September 1, 1991. Since It’s creation the Texas Sex Offender Registration Program has been strengthened by the legislature every legislative session. These changes have added additional criminal offenses requiring registration, lengthened the time period sex Offenders have to register, provided for community notification of sex offenders, and have increased the criminal penalties for the failure to comply with the registration requirements.

The DPS implemented a website to allow for public access to sex offender registration (SOR) information within the State of Texas. You may search the database by offender name, address (city), county, school, or zip code. Click the link above to access the Texas Department of Public Safety Sex Offender site.
